Dirty Dining Series Takes On Giralda Ave.

Giralda Avenue is apparently not just "where restaurants go to die" (as coined by me), but also, "where restaurants go to be condemned," asevidenced by this post at the Dirty Dining blog.

A check on inspections of restaurants on this street revealed that a bunch of them have been cited for critical violations, ranging from dirty microwave ovens to the prescence of dead roaches to "slime in the ice machine" - yum!

This sucks. I know no place can ever be violation-free (apparently!), but it's just disheartening to see the proof so plainly. I'm most affected by the violations at Randazzo's, because I love the food there so friggin' much. I'm hoping things will be nice and clean over at the new location (which, last I heard, was slated to open at the end of this year).

Honestly, this won't stop me from eating there or at any of these restaurants, gross as that may sound. If I like the food enough to spend my money on it, I'll just remain in denial about these violations and continue on my merry way. Denial's o.k. sometimes. Like, for a plate of really awesome gnocchi.

I can't believe you killed Nexxt.

What's next on your list?

I do not think we or anyone killed Nexxt they did it themselves. They opened and the violations happened within oh lets say hours...ok a month...Honestly they couldn't keep it violation free for a month? Although I will admit they never did charge me extra for the bugs.

The violations actually occurred within 3 days of their opening.

Anonymous' comment would make me feel all bad and sad and guilty if it wasn't for their cowardice; statements with any degree of weight are made by people who don't hide behind "anon."

Nexxt was actually normally pretty full at lunch time. I had to wait for a table a couple of times. I'm sure the violations had nothing to do with their closing, as many other places continue to thrive. The fact is that they were overpriced and the service was horrible. Restaurants are difficult to make money on and I can't imagine what it cost them to operate such a large space (even the rent alone). Moreover, the owners are trying to pass the blame onto the city, saying that they had to close b/c the city wouldn't approve larger signage for them which they claim killed their business. Right. I think it had a lot more to do with their incredible disappearing waiters and the fact that it took over 90 minutes to have a simple lunch there.

I would be happy if we could just get Randazzo's to edit the mob movies they show. There's nothing like enjoying your rigatoni while a body is being dismembered on the tv screen above.

Dismemberment and rigatoni - yum!

I'm thankful they at least have the volume off. I prefer the Rat Pack to the sound of bodies being dismembered!

Nexxt had a concept that should have gone gangbusters in the Gables. It seems like it was just run by extremely weird people.

The problems were definitely the service, and the lack of outdoor seating. The health violations didn't help - but I think this had very little to do with the closing.

Can't believe how empty the mile is becoming... if you squint, you can see the tumbleweeds.
