Nexxt Cafe is Open

Well, I was completely off when I opined that Nexxt Cafe was still a few months from opening. Those false exterior walls are so deceptive!

It's open! Driving by today, it was full of people dining. We'll have to see if the service is as awful as the one on Lincoln Road and the food as mediocre. I'm willing to give them a try, but will wait till they've been open a bit and have had a chance to get their s**t together.

If you went this weekend, let us know about it in the comments!

I went in to get takeout for 1 today. Two things struck me:
1. For a place that just opened, it was packed! (1pm on a monday)
2. The menu is virtually identical to cheesecake factory's. complete with plastic spiral binding and ads on every other page. Very extensive, it took me a few minutes to review all of it. Again, just like cheesecake's- americana w. some twists, lots of salads, burgers, sandwiches, misc entrees, pizzas, pastas, etc...
My chicken sw was OK, nothing great, but very heavy (loaded with mayo, cheese on thick greasy bread), it left me feeling bloated for hours.

It's got something for everyone, but it's nothing special, comfort food really. Maybe my real issue is that I don't really like "americana". Places like that (nexxt, cheescake, tgi fri, etc...) substitute quantity (i.e. calories) for taste/innovation. So in that sense, the menu is more safe than exotic. But I don't know where I'm going with this review, check the place out for yourself, I feel myself going off the reservation...

I was surprised to see it open today, I gotta stop by one of these days for Lunch.

I'm not surprised it was packed. Not that I think the Gables is sparse on lunch spots but I think I can speak for others when I say that its always cool to have a new place to add to the lunch Rotation.

Baja Fresh, Subway, Chicken Grill Quiznos etc and so on.

I'm just now resorting to packing my lunches

The one on the beach was actually sued by Cheesecake Factory for this. I think Nexxt is owned by someone who used to work for CF, who then left and basically copied the menu. I don't remember how the lawsuit turned out, but they're obviously still around.

This makes me want to avoid Nexxt at all costs. Maybe it's working in copyright and trademark protection for so long, but people who can't come up with their own thing and benefit on the work of others bug me.

Just go to Graziano's market, next to karma and across the street from Gables dinner, you'll get fillet mignon, fries and salad for 12 dollars.....

Wow thanks for the review! You know that is something to think about. I had a good experience when I had gone to Nexxt on the Beach but not so sure I want to be a party to copy-cats and snitches. Humm... I think I will wait it out and let them get their act together.

I dine out every night, Nexxt Cafe's menu is surely a close copy of Chees. Cke. Fac. However if you look closely there are many items in the menu that you would not get enywhere else. I had the kobe hot dogs for appetizers, it was new and very creative. I like options, Nexxt lets me chose what I want. I think Coral Gables is lucky to have them. I had a taste for brunch today on saturday, try their cho. french toast.

I have now been to Nexxt three times since it has opened. I must say that each subsequent trip has positioned the restaurant further and further down my list of acceptable places to dine on the Mile. The service is exceptionally slow and there have never been more than 3 other tables present when I am there in the late afternoon. My lunch companions (each in their late 20's) were actually hassled and almost not served due to their out of state id's. The manager actually flat out accused one of them as being a fake id.
This should have been our clue to leave immediately, but our prior semi-good experiences kept is there.
The salad was brown, bitter, and pretty un-edible! And at $10.95 for lettuce, I expect a pretty wonderful dish!
Maybe we should have stuck to water and dessert!

I liked what they did with the interior. Food is great, I love the deserts. Not a lot of places in Gables to offer so much for the value. I read the review of the writer with so called fake Ids, I was in the biz for a while and I was thought to question the questionable. I will go back and recommend it.

Heads up! If you check www.local10.com the Dirty Dinning list you will see Nexxt was cited for (and I hate to write this) Roach Activity! Eeeck...and I was thinking of going there. What is even more of a shame is the date was October 29, 2007 ok isn't that like 2 minutes after it opened? I will keep an eye on that list for when they return to re-examine.

We had dinner at Nexxt last Friday and you people must have gone to a different restaurant. The service was excellent, all the employees were going out of their way to make it a very pleasant experience and the food was really great. The fried calamari has a very lite batter, truly great. The Portobello Burger is something to try, it was great and really different, the beef ribs really fall off the bone.
I think some of you should get a life and "really" go to Nexxt.

I"ve been to Nexxt Coral Gables four times since it opened and got nothing but praise for the place. Each time I have been there the staff has been friendly and actually seem to enjoy working there. I love being able to get something different no matter how many times I go there each week, and its REALLY good. It really does seem like the people writing above have not been to the same Nexxt I've been, it's almost as if they cut and paste the reviews of the one on the beach.

I had a late lunch at Nexxt today and the food was spectacular, and the service stupendous. Sure its new sure it has some glitches they need to work out, but I can't think of a better location for such wonderful food and ambient.

In regards to the fake I.D. issue....

Perhaps if the expiration date wouldn't have been in the year 2046, your I.D. could've been believable..

I'm not surprised there are mixed reviews - we all have different points of view and different criteria by which we measure a good experience.

I would expect staff here to be very friendly and better than the one at the beach. It's a brand-new establishment, what would they have to be pissy about?

Tere, you have proven your self as the "Anti Nexxt". As a blogger, you have lost ground. You sound like you have personnal issues with the establishment.

It definitely sounds like someone has an ax to grind.

I have been to the Coral Gables Nexxt twice now and they were both very positive experiences. I like that whatever kind of mood I am in I can find something I want on the menu. I had the bang bang chicken and the rock shrimp tempura last time and I thought it was very tasty.

Its hard to believe this is the same ownership as the Beach location. The service in Coral Gables rivals Houstons.

Let me point something out here...

so interesting about the inaccurate "roach" statement.

I did some research on this one, and found out more of the truth.

They're not true.

Also, the "criticial" violations were overexaggerated. One of them was for "incorrect" food storeage Turns out they were cited for actually storing the food a few degrees COOLER, not warmer.

Also, the dishwasher simply had extra water that spilled on the floor. That's all.

As far as the "roaches", that seems to be an exaggeration as well. I've seen NO real reports of them.

As for my experience, it's only been great. I dine out regularly. The service here is among the best I received. The food is great, large portions, and I especially enjoy the top quality steak.

If you're looking for global cuisine at a great price with great service, check it out! Enjoy!

PS. This one is pretty different from the location on the beach. It's cleaner, friendlier, and faster.
